A Penton Aviation Media Conference - Organized by
ECO-AVIATION IN ACTION The airline industry made strong progress last year towards a greener future. Maintaining momentum during a downturn won’t be easy, but it is the right decision. The administration of President Barack Obama is committed to a more activist stance on the environment, supported by Congress. New requirements capping greenhouse gas emissions could be coming to the US, while the European Parliament has approved bringing aviation under its emissions trading scheme in three years. Eco-Aviation is about more than just CO2. Engine makers are focused on making engines quieter and reducing NOx emissions. Maintenance providers are reducing energy consumption and hazardous wastes in the hangar. Airports are building LEED terminals, investing in greener power sources like solar power and working to solve local pollution issues such as deicing fluid and ground-level pollutants. Our conference last year identified the issues and the progress to date. This year it examines practical applications and near-and long-term solutions. Well-focused, substantive conference with knowledgeable speakers providing an excellent snapshot of the state of the issue.” “An outstanding opportunity to focus on not only the environmental aspects, but the cost issues of fuel inefficient planes and practices. There’s much to be saved by improving practices.” “It’s about time the industry raises awareness about this important topic. Kudos to ATW!” “This conference was an excellent forum to synergize all areas of the aviation industry.”
